Why Backups Matter
If you lose your phone, break it, or upgrade to a new device without a backup, all your cards are permanently lost. A backup takes 30 seconds to create and could save you hours of re-adding cards.
Our Backup Philosophy
We try to use system backups (iCloud for iOS, Google Backup for Android) as much as possible because they're automatic and convenient. However, we've learned that they're not always reliable, especially on Android.
Why System Backups Can Be Unreliable
iOS (iCloud Backup): Generally very reliable. Apple's backup system works consistently across all iPhones and iPads. If you have iCloud Backup enabled, your cards are usually safe.
Android (Google Backup): Unfortunately, Google Backup reliability varies significantly by device manufacturer:
- Google Pixel & stock Android: Google Backup works well on Google's own devices
- Samsung, Xiaomi, Huawei, and other manufacturers: These devices have their own cloud backup systems (Samsung Cloud, Mi Cloud, Huawei Cloud, etc.) that can interfere with Google Backup. This interference makes Google Backup unreliable for app data.
- The problem: We have no control over how manufacturers implement backups. Some devices backup SuperCards data correctly, others don't.
Our Recommendation
We always recommend QR code backup as your primary backup method, especially on Android. It's the most reliable method, works between any devices (iPhone to Android, Android to iPhone, etc.), takes only 30 seconds to create, and gives you complete control over your data.
Think of it this way: System backups are a convenient "bonus" that might save you, but QR code backup is the reliable safety net you should always have.
